Simultaneous Interpretation Services

Professional simultaneous interpreter and real-time translation equipment rental for your conferences, congresses and international events.

What is Simultaneous Interpretation?

Simultaneous interpretation is a form of professional oral translation performed in real time alongside the speaker's delivery. Specialist interpreters (called simultaneous interpreters) work inside sound-insulated booths, listening to the speaker through headphones and delivering the translation into a microphone in the target language. The audience follows the interpretation via wireless receiver headsets.

This method of interpretation is particularly preferred at international conferences, diplomatic summits, corporate meetings, academic symposia and large-scale events. Its greatest advantage over consecutive interpretation is the absence of any time loss — the speaker continues without pause while all listeners follow in their own language simultaneously.

Why Simultaneous Interpretation?

  • Zero time loss — real-time translation
  • Up to 32 languages simultaneously
  • Professional sound-insulated booths
  • Experienced simultaneous interpreters
  • End-to-end technical support

Frequently Asked Questions

What is simultaneous interpretation?

Simultaneous interpretation is a form of real-time oral translation where interpreters listen to the speaker and deliver the translation into the target language at the same time. Interpreters work inside sound-insulated booths, listening through headphones and speaking into a microphone. Audience members follow the translation via wireless receivers and earphones.

How does simultaneous interpretation work?

The speaker talks into a microphone connected to the conference system. The interpreter, seated in a sound-proof booth, hears the speech through headphones and simultaneously translates it into the target language. The translation is transmitted via infrared or radio-frequency transmitters to wireless receivers distributed to the audience.

What is the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpretation?

In simultaneous interpretation the translation happens in real time — the interpreter speaks at the same time as the speaker, so there is no delay. In consecutive interpretation the speaker pauses every few sentences and the interpreter then delivers the translation. Simultaneous interpretation requires booths and technical equipment but saves significant time, especially at large multilingual events.

How many interpreters are needed?

The international standard requires a minimum of two interpreters per language pair. They rotate every 20–30 minutes because simultaneous interpretation demands intense concentration. For events longer than 6 hours or with highly technical content, three interpreters per language pair may be recommended.

What equipment is required?

A standard setup includes sound-insulated interpretation booths (ISO 4043 compliant), interpreter consoles, a central control unit (CCU), infrared or digital transmitters, radiators for signal distribution, and wireless receiver headsets for the audience. A professional sound system with microphones is also essential.

In how many languages can simultaneous interpretation be provided?

With modern digital systems such as the Bosch Integrus, up to 32 languages can be interpreted simultaneously at a single event. The practical limit depends on the number of booths and the availability of qualified interpreters for each language pair.

Is an interpretation booth mandatory?

For professional events, yes. ISO 4043 compliant booths ensure sound isolation so the interpreter's voice does not leak into the room and external noise does not disrupt the interpreter. For smaller meetings or outdoor events, portable table-top booths or bidule (whispered interpretation with a portable transmitter) can be used as alternatives.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing depends on the number of language pairs, event duration, number of interpreters, equipment type (booth model, number of receivers), venue logistics, and whether travel is required. Standard billing is per half-day or full-day, not hourly. A detailed quote is prepared after understanding the event's requirements.

What is a wireless receiver headset?

The wireless receiver (also called a listener unit) is a small device distributed to each audience member. It picks up the interpreter's translated audio via infrared or radio-frequency signal. The listener selects the desired language channel on the receiver and listens through the attached earphone.

Can you provide interpreters as well as equipment?

Yes. In addition to equipment rental, we coordinate with our network of certified simultaneous interpreters to staff your event. All interpreters in our network hold relevant certifications and have extensive conference experience.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks before the event to secure interpreter availability and allow time for technical planning and a venue site survey. For large-scale international events, 6–8 weeks lead time is ideal.

Do you offer a site survey before the event?

Yes. Our technical team visits the venue in advance to assess acoustics, booth placement, power supply, signal coverage, and microphone positioning. This ensures a seamless setup on the event day.
